Happy 2009 and Welcome Back to school!

We hope all of our students are rested from winter break and had fun on their time off from school.  It's good to be back in the routine.  The students are adjusting well and seem to be eager to be back with their classmates and ready to begin with the 3rd Quarter.

This 9 weeks, we will be learning many new things.  We will cover fractions & measurement in Math.  They were issued a new reading book for the 2nd half of the year and the first story is in a theme relating to "Family."  the beginning story is called, "Shoes from Grandpa"- there are many new stories we will cover along with many trade books we will be reading in class. Please keep up with the Reading logs at home- Each student will come home with a new Home Reading Record this week that  can  be posted on the fridge or kept in their purple folders.  They turn these in for a reading reward from Mrs. Tenney!   We are starting a new theme with writing, called "persuasive" writings.  We brainstormed lots of topics that might make a good writing piece.  We will persuade each other to exercise, eat less sugar, salt and the best toy to have or TV show to watch, the best season of the year, the best lunch choice and why we should have 2 recesses.  They even came up with swimming in a creek is better than a pool!  Now that is creative but may take some persuading!  I'm sure we will have some solid, quality writings come out of this 9 weeks!

Conference week is approaching so please look for your invited time.  They will  be sent home this Thursday the 8th so please respond promptly!  We look forward to meeting and discussing your child's progress.  See you all soon!

The Latest from the TG Jets!

00001061[1]  Our class has been so very busy this fall.  Time has surely passed quickly!

We have been working very hard in Language Arts by reading all about "Johnny Appleseed" and last week we read about "Abuela" which means grandma in Spanish.  This week we will be covering topics such as, "The president " and also "Bats."  We are reviewing all the core spelling words included in Units 1-10. We are becoming lifelong spellers!

Our writing skills are coming along nicely.  Last quarter we wrote narrative pieces of writing and this 2nd quarter we are focusing on writing informational topics.  So far they have written about Apples, the Fall, Johnny Appleseed, My Family and If I were the President.  They are starting to work on sentence order and opening and closing their writing.  We try an edit each piece and this can take some time. We are pleased with the end result and their writing continues to improve!

Classroom_star_clipart[1] Conratulations to Shane Bowles for being selected as our Character Education winner for the word, "Responsibility"  Way to go Shane!

Last, we would like to say "Thanks a bunch!" for all the wonderful books you gave to us from the book fair.  We are still enjoying them and sharing with the class!  We  appreciate your gifts!

As2211tn[1]   Our class is reading atleast 2 AR books a week and also many more.  Keep up the home reading records and turn them into to Mrs. Tenney for your credit!!

What's the Latest News ?......

Happy Fall!  That wonderful time is here.  The TG Jets are zooming with all kinds of exciting learning taking place!

We are having a wonderful time in Language Arts reading about stories on "friendship"  last week we read about the power of a smile and an apology in the story, Matthew & Tilly.  We also had fun making peanut butter, marshemellow, and apple smiles in our center.  Thank you to those students for contributing to our creative, healthy snack.  This week we are covering a story about Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea.   This week we will listen to opera and sip on some tea just like Mr. Putter and Tabby!

  • Congratulations to Coby Lind for being our class character Ed. winner for "INTEGRITY"  we appreciate you showing good character !
  • Hands on ATlanta Day this Saturday!  Please try and come by and give a little time helping to improve our school grounds!  It's great to pitch in and help out!
