CRCT Testing!

        We will have just over a week before we begin taking the CRCT. I know this is new for many parents if your first grader is your oldest child. The CRCT is a statewide test that covers the curriculum taught in reading, language arts and math. The test is given over three days and each day focuses on one area. For the reading portion students are expected to silently read passages and then answer multiple choice questions read by the teacher. The language arts and math portions are also multiple choice  questions read by the teacher. Please make every effort to have your child at school on time. It is difficult for the children if students are running in and unpacking, they need an opportunity to settle before testing. Also, if your child is ill, and that happens, any portion of the test they do not take with the class, will need to be taken later.   It is important that students are well rested, have a normal breakfast, and  dress comfortably on the day of the tests. It is most important that they not worry and stress over answering questions correctly. Please discuss the importance of listening and doing their best. The tests are important, but I am proud of my students and all of their hard work this year no matter the results of one test on one day.

200Club!                                                                                                                  Our new 200 Club members are: Jacob, Kimberly, Jordan, Sam, Jorge, and Trenon! They are joining those who are already in the club. Way to go everybody!

* I hope that everyone had a great Spring Break and are ready to dig in to the end of the year. We have many events comming up for first grade.

April 20- May 1: CRCT-All students in grades 1-5 will be tested.  More information will be sent home.

* Thank you to all who contributed to the Food Drive. Everyine had a great time at the Sock Hop! There were many wonderful types of foods donated and we enjoyed dancing to the "oldies".

* We all need to remember our manners at all times. I know that everyone is getting excited about the end of the year, but we all need to work on getting along with our peers..

Last day of School!!! 

The last day of school is May 22, 2009 and we will be learning everyday. Please make sure that your student is at school and on time everyday.

Lewis, Clark and Sacagawea! 

A wonderful program about Sacagawea! All of first grade was respectful and attentive as our speaker explained the importance of Sacagawea's role in the explanation of the United States. A booklet will come Monday for you to read to your child or with your child about her life. Please help your child answer the questions.

200Club!                                                                                                                  Our new 200 Club members are: Cassidy, Brandon, Amaiyah, and Carter! They are joining Ryosuke in the club. Way to go everybody!

* The Fall Festival! Even though it was a windy, chilly day everyone had fun. We had a wonderful gift basket to be auctioned off from first grade. A big thank you to all who helped make it a success.

* Thank you to all who contributed to the Thanksgiving Food Drive. There were many wonderful types of fruits donated!

* An Angel Tree- An angel tree has been placed at the school entrance. There will be angels on the tree which have specific requests for holiday gifts. You can pick an angel and buy a specified gift. Return the unwrapped gift with the angel attached by December 10th.

Let the Learning Begin!

          School has started and we are settling in nicely. The students are wonderful and full of kindness toward each other. They now know how to get around in the building as we took a tour of the school on Monday. We will be visiting the Media Center (Library) sometime next week and the students will be able to check out a book to take home. Please remind them to put it in their book-bags when they are finished reading. It should come back to school everyday.

          We are currently learning about communities, continents, and oceans. Did you know that there are 7 continents and 5 oceans? The five oceans are the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and Southern. You can help your student find these on a map for reinforcement. We are also discussing what a character is and who the characters are in a story. Ask your student about characters and about "Braidy". A parent letter will be coming home later this week that explains all about "Braidy".

          I'm looking forward to working with you and your child this year and watching them learn and grow. Thank you for your support at home. Together, we will make this a great year!

Welcome to the first grade!

Welcome!!

     I am looking forward to meeting you all at Meet & Greet on August 7, 2008. In the meantime, I am preparing intresting and exciting lessons for this upcoming year. We will have a great time as we learn about Math, Science, Social studies, Reading, Writing, and Health. Have a wonderful summer and stay safe!
