Winter Break Has Arrived!

1st Semester Completion

Wow! Great job Team Rollins for an amazing first semester! I am very proud of all of you!

 We have had a great December with a Spelling Bee, Winter Concert, Field Trip, Winter Party, and oh yeah.......studies! I have seen great development and achievement in all areas, but very impressed with our students in Math and Writing. Many students are ahead of pace with the 25 book Reading  standard too.We had a very good session checking books before break. All students have 2 books to read over the Holiday. Take a moment to ask them questions to stimulate comprehension of the material they are reading. Some of them are reading very good Historical Fiction books.  

Some students were asking for work over the break. Rather than making copies I have listed a few sites they can  explore.

Holiday Party

Big Thanks to our Room Mom Mrs. Beaverson for coordinating the Winter Party and special thanks to Mr. Porterfield for joining us for music sing along. We'll have him back later this spring in the outdoor classroom!

Class Pets

We want to wish Joe (our fired bellied toad friend) well on his journey to find Moe.  Before he left though Joe placed a want ad on Craig's List for a replacement and Johnny showed up to take his place. Johnny is assimilating nicely with Larry and Curly.

Individual Recognition

Congratulations to REESE STERNS and NATALIA BERNAL for earning December Character Award for COMPASSION. Both students exemplify this quality by demonstrating an appreciation, empathy, and concern for the well-being of others. I am proud of both of you!

Great applause to Team Rollins Chorus members! You all were wonderful and I really enjoyed watching you perform!

Big applause to Kate Porterfield and Tayah Mack for their participation at the Spelling Bee. They gained valuable experience and I think we may see both of them back next year!

Fireside Chat

Thank you thank you thank you for the wonderful gifts and gift cards. Your generosity and support for me as your 4th grade teacher is so very much appreciated.

I hope everyone has a very wonderful Holiday with family and friends. If you are traveling, I wish you safe journeys. Remember to appreciate the gifts in life we are blessed with. I am truly blessed to be given the opportunity to guide your children each and every day. We have had a fantastic first half of the chool year and I want you all to know I am very proud of each our students for the hard work and dedication. T.ogether E.veryone A.chieves M.ore.

Team Rollins December 2nd

Welcome Back from another Thanksgiving! I hope everyone enjoyed the break and shared your time well with family and friends. 

Opening Lap: Spelling Bee

We are proud of Tayah Mack and Kate Porterfield! They will represent Team Rollins at the Kincaid Spelling Bee this Friday. It was a very competetive field this year and I want to thank everyone for participating and doing their best.  Participants families are welcome to join us in the gymnasium on Friday. The bee starts promptly at 8:15. GO TAYAH and KATE!

On the Straight Away: 4th Grade Field Trip

When: Friday, December 12

Where: Cobb County Youth Museum

Why: To learn about key people, places, and events surrounding the American Revolution.

What: Each student will have an opportunity to dress up and participate in a skit.

The Final Lap: Team Accomplishments

It has been a fast-paced environment here in 4th grade this year and see no slow-down in the immediate future. Our students are doing really good keeping up with their responsibilities when it pertains to homework, class participation, and teamwork. On Monday, December 1st, Team Rollins earned their second TEAMWORK AWARD class party as they successfully moved 20 rocks again. As you may know, Team Rollins moves a rock each OUTSTANDING DAY (students vote at end of day) and also move a rock if they are given a compliment as we transition quietly thoughout the building. Team Rollins has come such a long way in just a few months. I am extremely proud of them for their hard work. We have several strong leaders and overall, our group of young people show excellent character and comraderie. GOOD JOB TEAM ROLLINS

Checkered Flag: Curriculum

Math: Classifying Triangles: Students are classifying the different types of triangles based on measurement of sides: equilateral, isosceles, and scalene. Measurement of angles: Right Triangle, Acute Triangle, and Obtuse Triangle. Next up: Quadrilaterals.

• Thursday, December 11: 2nd Quarter IMI (We will be reviewing M/T/W. Expect a Study Guide. Students should be studying at home in preparation for this test.

• January: Decimel Fractions

Writing: Response to Literature. Students have been learning the essential requirements in responding to literature: Voice and Style are our area of pursuit. Students are learning how to integrate their opinion, feelings, and judgements in their writing.

• Next up: Informational Writing (3rd Nine Weeks)

Science: Beginning Unit on Forces in Motion and Simple Machines.

Social Studies: Beginning Unit on Colonization

Reading: Completed a three-week guided reading book just before break. Continuing to work on ROOTS VOCABULARY.
