Mystery Book Report

Today's Homework Response Journal has the wrongdue date for the mystery book report rough draft.  The due date for the rough draft is Wednesday, May 6th.  I am so sorry for my error.  The final report and project is due Tuesday, May 12th.  This report and project will replace the normal Response Journal homework we give weekly.  This will give the students more time to produce a quality report and project.

Allergy season is here, and we are out of tissue.  We would appreciate very much if you could send in a box of tissue for our classroom.  Thank you very much!

Homework

The only homework the students will have during testing week will be the 20 - 40 minute reading required each night.  The students should be relaxed and ready to begin testing.  Thank you for helping prepare for CRCT testing. 

CRCT

We have been working really hard the last few weeks practicing for the CRCT.  Thank you for assisting your child with the homework review packets sent home.  We also went over each packet in class to further reinforce our CRCT review.  The time is finally here.  We will begin testing Tuesday, April 21st as close to 8:00 as we can.  Total testing time could last as long as 140 minutes each day.  The first test will be reading.  As you know, third graders must pass the reading test to go to the fourth grade.  If they do not pass, they will attend summer school and retest reading again.  The last day of testing will be Monday, April 27th.  Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast, and comes to school on time.  Thank you to the parents who provided protein snacks for testing. 

This week our class divided into 6 groups studying important people of Georgia.  Each group is responsible for presenting a visual or poster of their person to the class.  We want to be finished with this project by the Tuesday or Wednesday after spring break.  The students have been very busy reading and organizing their project and are really enjoying learning about their person. 

Our Volunteer Tea for our great parents is Thursday, April 2nd from 8:15 to 10:00.  Please stop by if you get a chance.  We appreciate all you do.

On another note, Celebration of the Arts is this Friday.  We look forward to this every year.  We are so lucky to have such a wonderful PTA.

We have been busy reviewing for the CRCT which will begin on Tuesday, April 21st.  Thank you for reviewing the packets sent home for homework with your child.  A few reminders about testing:  Get a good night's sleep, eat a good breakfast, and come to school on time.  Testing will begin at 8:15.

Important Papers

Important papers will be sent home Thursday, April 2nd.  Included in the white envelope will be your child's writing assessment scores for the year in the four different writing genres we have done this year.  Also included in the envelope is information on a new tutoring computer program designed for Georgia students.  This program is called Skills Tutor and is very kid friendly.  The students should really enjoy these animated fun activities.  Directions are also included in the information.  We are very fortunate to have the chance to have this available to our Kincaid students.

English/Language Arts Instructional Materials Review March 9-27

The Cobb County School District is offering citizens an opportunity to review textbooks and materials being considered for use in K-8 English/Language Arts.

The K-8 English/Language Arts textbooks and materials will be available for public review from March 9th through March 27th, 2009. Review of materials will take place at the Central Administrative building, 514 Glover Street in Marietta during regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What we are learning

We have completed our multiplication and division unit part 1 and post tested.  Our next unit will be on fractions and decimals as well as measurement.  Continue to practice your multiplication tables as we will have multiplication and division part 2 the last 9 weeks.

We will finish up our study of nouns and introduce verbs.  We have finished Unit 7 in spelling and will begin unit 8 this week. We have completed our biography book reports and they were great.  The students seemed to enjoy reading about their special person.  We concentrated on informational text last 9 weeks.  The next 9 weeks we will be reading fictional literature and persuasive writing will be our focus. 

Thanksgiving assignment

The Thanksgiving turkey assignment sent home previously is due November 13th.  Please be creative with your picture.  We will be creating poems for the bulletin board to go with the lovely creations.  Thank you for your help with this project.  It should be something fun to do with your child.
