Author's Picnic

We have a fun activity planned for Thursday, May 14th!  The Author's Picnic is a fun time for all!  We enjoy a snack & drink while we get to sit back & listen to a creative & well written story that all the children have written & published....

Thank you, Thank you for the volunteers that have already said they would send in juice boxes & cookies.

**********We really need some parent volunteers*********** All that is needed is... for you to be able to be at the school Thursday, May 14th at 8:30 am.  You would need to plan on one hour to an hour 1/2.  You will be chapperoning a group while they snack & read their stories.  We divide the whole 2nd grade into small groups of about six....So, we need at least a few chapperones per classroom.

If you have the time & would like to......PLEASE let me know~

Have great rest of the week....

We can't wait until Friday~ our field trip to Fernbank!!!

PARENTS~ You, too have a homework assignment :) I have sent a note home today regarding a card for you to make for your child.  We, the second grade teachers, thought it would be neat for you to send some well wishes for your child before testing.  Please make a card for your child & return it back to me before next Monday, April 20th.

Welcome Back!

I am so excited to start off the new year! What a great first day we had! The children seemed very energetic & ready to accept the many challenges ahead. We are off to a great start getting organized & reviewing concepts learned over the years.

Please look for your child's take home folder (purple folder) each day.  Notice the assignment sheet that comes inside that will give you all information including homework for the week & school happenings.

The only homework this first week is "What's My Bag" due by Friday.

Homework will always come home stapled to this assignment sheet on Monday & need to be returned by Friday. Homework may also be turned in "before" Friday.  In addition to thier weekly homework packet, Math homework will come home on Monday's & Wednesday's.  This homework needs to be turned in the very next day as we are practicing these concepts daily.

Beginning the second day of school, the students will be bringing a "take home book" home to be read "aloud" to you at home.  This should be read each night & the reading log  signed off. Please keep in mind that this book should not be difficult.  Its purpose is to increase fluency.  The media center books that they check out will be geared more toward their appropriate book level.

In the beginning, please help your child develop good organizational habits &  an effective way to organize their nightly school routine.  This is so crucial & will pave the way for  responsibility, success & self-confidence within themselves which we are striving to accomplish.

Working together as this team, I know it will be a successful year!
