Dear Parents,
Can hardly believe it is the last week of January. This week is conference week and I look forward to meeting with all of you. Don't forget it is early release also, which means that your child will be dismissed at 12:20.
READING: We are continuing our story of Too Many Tamales. The test will be on Friday. The vocabulary words are: dough, slowly, minute, presents, stomachs, delicious, mouthful, and argue.
Media Center will be on Thursday this week. PLEASE make sure you have your books at school on this day so you can check out new ones.
2 A.R. tests are due this week by Friday.
SPELLING: We are on Unit #17 this week. The words are: look, around, also, right and think. The test and sentence dictation will be on Friday.
WRITING: We are working on persuasive writing this nine weeks. Thanks to all of those parents who participated in the animal letter writing. The students had such a good time with this and hopefully it helped them better understand how to persuade someone.
GRAMMAR: This week we are working on adjectives that compare using er and est.
Examples would be big, bigger, biggest, strong, stronger, strongest. We continue to review ALL skills in preparation for the CRCT test in April.
MATH: We are on our measurement unit now and have been learning about inches, feet and yards. We will also be measuring in centimeters and telling the temperature. We continue to do problem solving activities in our math journals daily.
SOCIAL STUDIES: This week we will be learning more about Jackie Robinson. The students are so "into it."
NOTES: We learned a lot from the firefighters who came in several times last week. Be sure to ask your child some of the important things that they learned about fire safety.
We will exchange class Valentine cards on Friday, Feb. 13th at the end of the day. Target students will return to class after enrichment to join us in the fun. I will be sending home a class list. We will be making something to put their valentines in, so you don't need to worry about sending anything in.
See you all this week at your scheduled conference time.
