Welcome back! I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing winter break.
Here is what is going on in third grade in January. In math, we are starting fractions. We will also continue to work on exemplars and will maintain our multiplication facts. Our language arts units are persuasive writing and reading fictional text. We will move on to Unit 10 in our Sitton spelling. In grammar, we will be focusing on adjectives as well as our Daily Language Review for morning work. We will be having DLR Quizzes on Fridays and it may help if the kids review their morning work sentences (kept in their binders) before the day of the quiz. We correct and review the sentences daily in class. Also, encourage your child to start off this new nine weeks with a bang in independent reading. Remember our goal is 2 AR books per week or 50 pages in a chapter book. If their book of choice is not an AR book, they can complete a book review or some kind of book report to show comprehension. In science, we are going to play in the dirt! We will be studying soil and erosion.
A few upcoming dates to remember are: Jan. 16th - Cougar Pride Day _ show your spirit!
Jan. 19th - MLK day - no school.
Jan. 26th - 30th Conference Week-more info. to come!
Have a wonderful week...and as usual thank you for all that you do to help your child be a successful third grader!
