Our Final Edition...

The First Grade Ball was magical!

 In our party clothes and costumes, we ate, danced, made wands and crowns, and gave the dragon a heart. A big Thank You to Abi's, Sam's, and Kendall's mom for helping out with the ball and to Hannah's dad for reading a fairy tale to the class before lunch.Also, thank you to all for sending food and fairy tale supplies. After the ball the kids enjoyed Queen Glitter as she entertained us with fascinating fairy tales. Pictures will come home this week in our memory book.

Events this week...

Monday - Making memories in our memory book and magic in our fairy tale books.

Tuesday- Game day . Bring in a board game to play.

Wednesday- Breakfast and Book Day. To celebrate the 200 Club Members and our reading successes we will have donuts and danish. Bring a pair of pajamas and a stuffed animal and we'll read, munch and celebrate!

Thursday- Today is cleaning day so we'll bringing home everything!

Friday- Popcorn and a movie.

Thank You, Thank You!

   Thank you for making Teacher Appreciation Week so wonderful! I appreciate all the flowers, cards, and gifts. The cookie mix, gift cards, my special pot of special flowers, and class book are outstanding. Also, Mrs. Doyle, Mrs. Worku, and Mrs. Barnes kept the class while I went to the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. Thank you for making me feel so special.

Events this week-

* Field Day- Tuesday- Tennis shoes are a must. Recommendation- sunscreen, cap, and comfortable clothes.

* Fairy Tale Ball- Please send in donation by Wednesday. Remember to wear dressy clothes or fairy tale costume. Send a change of clothes to wear the rest of the day.

 

 

Marvelous May

Yes, It's May and we're in the final weeks of 1st grade. Here's

Three Cheers For:

* 100% attendance and punctuality during CRCT testing. We had Popsicles and a movie to celebrate the end of testing!

* Josie for winning the Character Award for Accomplishment.

* Summer bbirthdays- Kendall- June 20th and Josie- July 31st- Happy 7th Birthday, Girls.

* The Zoo Mobile- Thank you to PTA for funding most of this culminating activity on our unit of animals.

* The Relay for Life Kickball game- May 7th- Thank you for all your contributions for helping support the American Cancer Association. The Kincaid staff will be walking for the Relay for Life this weekend.

* Field Day- May 12th ( Tuesday) Wear tennis shoes, comfortable clothes, sunscreen.

* Fairy Tale Ball- May 15th- Information will be going home on Monday, May 4th. Thank you in advance for your contributions.

* The Snack Can- We only have three weeks. If you haven't sent something in the past two weeks, please send a box of cereal and something to mix with it for the trail mix.

* Sunshine Math- The class will be going to the School Store on Thursday, May 7th. Each child has a certain amount of money designated on their coupon for the amount of Sunshine Math sheets they completed. A big thank you to Mrs. Ramirez for checking the math each week and keeping such great records for us.

* Thank you to all that have sent in their postage for report cards ( report cards will need to be picked up if postage is not sent) and for the orders for  second grade supplies.

Five Fun Weeks...

  The last five weeks will be filled with lots of exciting events. We'll have the CRCT test on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The children are prepared and I feel will do a great job. Here are some tips for testing:

1. Get a great night's sleep every night. Eleven hours is best.

2. Eat a good high protein breakfast.

3. Wear comfortable clothes.

4. Bring a nutritious snack every day of testing.

* April 20th- Last day of Relay of Life sticker sales./ Rregistration cards due. Please send in ASAP.

* April 22nd- Earth Day

*May 1- Zoo Mobile- Wear 1st Grade Yellow T-shirt.

Awesome April

  Spring Fever...

   Spring is finally here! Of course if you stayed in Georgia over Spring Break, you saw some snow! Wherever you were, I hope you had a wonderful time and are ready for the last six weeks of school. Now that warm weather is here, we'll have the effects of spring fever! The characteristics of spring fever include restlessness, laziness, and the desire for change- and  for a good reason. In April, air temperature begins to rise. The blood vessels dilate, more blood is manufactured, the blood's water content increases, and the blood thins. We are experiencing a spring overhaul which is designed to accommodate the new hot air we are going to breathe. For us to be productive during this time, we need to be ready for signs of spring fever!  With testing coming up next week and all the final learning for first grade, please help your child by seeing that a good night's sleep is implemented and a healthy breakfast and snack is given each day.

   Snack During Testing...

Testing for the CRCT will be next week, April 21st through April 23rd. During this time, we will not be eating from the snack can. Since we will have a short time for snack during testing, we will not have time to serve from the snack can. So send a snack each day that is high in protein such as peanut butter or cheese crackers, nuts, cheese, yogurt or protein bars. No messy fruits, please. We will continue the snack can except during testing, so please send donations.

Online review...

  You can practice for the CRCT by using the password and number I gave you at conference time. Also, there is a Skills Tutor program that I will send home this week that is new for our school. This is an excellent skills practice for your child.

Three Cheers for...

Mahlet and Deielle! Mahlet celebrated her birthday on March 25th and Deielle celebrated her birthday on April 2nd.

What We're Learning...

Math Standards...

* Measurement comparison with length, weight and capacity.

* Exchanging quantities of coins to the value of a dollar.

* Know the single-digit addition facts to 18 and corresponding

   subtraction facts with understanding and fluency.

* Apply addition and Subtraction to 2 digit numbers without

   regrouping.

* Solve and create word problems involving addition and subtraction

   to 100 without regrouping.

Writing  standards...

* Writing texts of lengths appropriate to address a topic,describe an

   experience, or tell a story.

* Reread to revise to add details, and edit to make corrections.

Reading Standards...

Week of March 16th...

  I can't believe we're beginning our last 9 weeks in first grade. This week I will take up the last reading record and putting in the 4th 9 weeks reading record. Please record any stories you read with your child. Report cards will go home this Thursday. If your have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I will be happy to schedule a conference. I'll post our 4th nine weeks standards next week.

Book Fair is this week, so please take the opportunity to visit this week. Tuesday will be picnic day and a special time to visit the Book Fair. Come have lunch with your child and then go to the Book Fair. Our lunch time is 12:40- 1:10.

Picture day was last Friday and we were all present with great big smiles. A big thank you to Mr. Wittenstein. After we had pictures made," Mr. Mike" read and taught the class some Spanish. Anyone that would like to be a guest reader, please let me know. As always, a thank you to Mrs. Doyle, Mrs. Cooney, and Mrs. Barnes for helping prepare for the coming week. Thank you to Mrs. Ramirez for checking our Sunshine Math.

I want to thank  all the parents that have contributed to the snack can. If you have not contributed this Month, please send a box of cereal and some small crackers or pretzels. We are very low.

   The week of March 9th will be a review week for the 3rd 9 weeks in math. Continue to memorize the math facts to 18.  We have completed our informative writing and I am happy with how well the class is writing. In science we will be learning about the parts of a plant and the needs of plants. As soon as the weather is better we will be planting in our first grade garden. Our daffodil es that we planted in the fall should be blooming soon! Soon spring will be here!

Last Week of February...

Fabulous February Continues...

Important Dates to remember...

* February 12th- Heritage Night 6:30- 8:00 pm.

* Orders for Lolligrams due by February 13th- Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

* February 13th- Campbell labels and Box Tops are due. Remember the grade level that collects the most gets to wear their pajamas on February 27th to school.

 

Three Cheers For...

*Kendall, our last Kid of the Week! We will now go to Kid of the Day for the rest of the year.

* Winter Writing- For the next two weeks we will have a reserved writing time each day. During this time each child will be creating a writing to enter for the Kincaid Writing Fair. The student that wins for our class will go on to compete for the grade level winner. Then the grade level winner will go on to compete at the Cobb County level. You can talk with your child about what she/he would like to write about. This will help formulate some ideas for your child.

* all the parents that have provided snack for our snack can. If you  haven't done so for this month, please send in a box of low-sugared cereal and bag of pretzels, small crackers, dried fruits, nuts, or animal crackers. Or you can use your imagination!!
