Social Studies- We learned about Harriet Tubman and now we are learning about President Theodore Roosevelt and his many accomplishments.

Science- Last week we started our unit on light and shadows. We took a walk around the school and looked for different sources of light.

Reading- We are reading lots of non-fiction books to go along with our informational writing unit. I am so proud of everyone's progress in reading, everyone is doing so well! If you haven't made it into the 200 Club, please make sure to bring back your book on a weekly basis.

Writing- We are working on informational writing. We have written stories about our family and this week we are going to write about Harriet Tubman and Theodore Roosevelt. Next week we will start reading non-fiction books about animals and start writing about them.

Spelling- This January we are going to start Sitton spelling. This is a program that is used in Cobb County. I did not use it this fall, bcecause I did not feel that our class was ready. There will be parent activities that I will send home once a week and there will be short fill in the blank tests that will review many of the sight words that we have been working on.

Sight words-Please continue to work on your words and send in your blue folder at least once a week.

Other- Ms. Ireland needs baby food jars if anyone has any.

Conferences are coming up and I will send home conference forms on Thursday.

We are quickly wrapping our first 9 weeks grading period. We have accomplished so much already. The first 9 weeks grading period ends this Friday, October 10th.

In science we are finishing our unit on weather. Today we made weather journals that your children will bring home at the end of the week.

Welcome Back to School!

Welcome back to a new school year. I am so happy to have your children in my class. I know that we are going to have a great year. We have had a busy week so far making our class rules, reading books, writing, and beginning some assessments that are allowing me to understand your child so that I can help them.

If you haven't turned in your papers that were sent home Monday in the Cobb County folders, please return them as soon as possible.

Also, our classroom tends to be cold, so you might want to send in a jacket or sweater that they can wear.

Thank you for all that you do!
