Spring Updates

April 18  Kincaid Fun Run

The annual Kincaid Fun Run will be held on Saturday morning, April 18.  Sign up now to save a spot and order your shirt.  We always have great participation from our class.  Look for me at the finish line, I'll be handing out the place cards for the top ten finishers!

April 21, 22, 23  CRCT

We will begin testing each day right after announcments.  Plase make sure your student is here on time and ready to do their best.  We've been reviewing so they should be confident.  More info will come home about testing after the break.

Skills Tutor

If you haven't had a chance to try out the new Skills Tutor program, you may want to try it out over the break.  Some of the students have reported back that it is lots of fun.  Over the summer it can be used for both enrichment and review.  It should be a fun and easy way to keep their skills sharp.

New Websites To Try

Here are some great websites for you to visit at home.  Each website has many different games and activities.  All students love to playcomputer games and don't realize that they are learning at the same time. It will help them review some critical CRCT skills too.  So the next time they are bored, try some of these instead of zapping aliens.  Enjoy!

Farewell from Mrs. Pennell

Friday, November 14th will be my last day of student teaching. It has been a wonderful journey! I want to thank Ms. Evans, the students, the parents, the administration, the faculty, and the staff for making my time at Kincaid so enjoyable. It is a bittersweet time for me. I have been working on my degree for some time now and finally see a light at the end of the tunnel. On the other hand, I will be sad to leave and will miss everyone terribly. After having such a great experience here at Kincaid, I now feel prepared to begin my teaching career. Thanks again for making me feel so at home. It is greatly appreciated.

Blankets

Here we are making our angel buddy blankets.  The blankets have been mailed and will soon be shipped to Iraq for the wounded soldiers.

Curriculum Night

October 16th is Curriculum Night. Please come and learn to play some fun math games with your child that will help them at home. We will also play “Are You Smarter than a Kincaid Fifth Grader?” There will be some great giveaways, including gas cards. This is a fun opportunity to spend some quality time with your child. We hope to see you there.

Birthday Thanks from Mrs. Pennell

Dear Parents and Students,
Today was an extraordinary day. Thank you for the candy, gifts, flowers, and hugs. I had a fabulous birthday and was on cloud nine all day long! The children certainly made me feel very special and cared about. I feel so privileged to be with such a great group of students. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Matter

This week we started our unit on matter. The students are having a great time and ask me everyday, “Mrs. Pennell, when are we going to do science?” We don’t just read about science, we actually “do” science. The children participate in hands on activities that will help them to better understand the concepts. If you would like to investigate matter with your child at home, here are some websites that might be helpful.

Early Release Treat

A big "Thank You" goes to the Mad Italian Restaurant for providing a special lunch for all the staff today for our Early Release Day. It was a very generous treat for us and we really enjoyed it. If you visit their restaurant, please tell them how much we appreciated it!
